Host:
I am a Communications expert by profession for a health tech start-up. I live in Bangalore with my husband in a lovely open apartment. I would definitely list food as one of my main passions, hobby, interests with a good measure of travel thrown in. I like traveling to the mountains , Himalayas are my love, the more remote the better, some of my happiest memories include sitting in a remote valley with the sun shining over the vast meadow, with a book by my side & not a soul in site. I am currently attempting to discover Buddhism as practised in different places on earth- be it Spiti valley or Bhutan. Traditional cultures, well preserved, undiscovered & remote nature- rivers, mountains excites me. I firmly believe in discovering a place through its food, I like traditional food cooked in houses , made with ingredients grown in the farm or backyard. I always have to pay for excess baggage because of all the local ingredients I drag in.
Tagline:
A gourmet meal crafted to reminisce summer memories
Why You:
To say that I live to eat may not be enough to describe my passion for food, I also love to cook for people, gatherings with lots of food, laughter and conversations is one of my favourite things to do. I also love to travel & centre my travel around culinary experiences, I can go to any lengths to find something local & delicious, for example combing through a dozen seedy back lanes in Bangkok to find a Bangladeshi restaurant someone recommended to discover the same chicken curry my grandma used to make or standing in a 4 hour line from 6:00 am to eat escargot (land snails) & chocolate bread in a french bakery in Pondicherry or living with a family in a remote valley in Bhutan in their 200 year old family home & learning their family recipes. Come join me in this OpenOut where I present all drinks and food made from the king of drinks, whiskey!

Food & Drinks:

The star of your dreams:

-Summer vacations in childhood in Kolkata meant this tart, sour fruit eaten with a pinch of salt and red chilli powder. This boozy Star fruit cocktail spells summer more than anything else

A cool dip in the pool:

-Think of the hot summer sun?  Now think of a dip in the pool. What are meals without soups but it’s hot so we will start with a cold Musk Melon & Mint Gazpacho, as refreshing as a dip in the pool on a hot summer afternoon

When watermelon found a partner:

-As summer approaches the streets are filled with watermelons sellers on the sides of roads. The refreshing , red and juicy fruit pairs perfectly with the bright sharp taste of fennel cream, home made Indian cheese & a hint of rosemary ; served on crunchy crackers

All that grows in the pond:

-Our ancestral home has a pond behind the house which is covered with water hyacinths, many a summer was spent to try and not fall in that pond but the temptation was too real. This dish is inspired by that memory. Next up is a dish that is bold & beautiful, a new take on the classic Peruvian dish, this Ceviche (raw fish cured & marinated with lemon) made of a summer special fish , caramelized mangoes, all rolled in a cucumber roll and floating on a pond (reduction) made of tart & sour Mosambi (sweet lime) & chilli

A lazy interlude:

-To take a break and to cleanse the palate for the next course, we will just go back to the uber popular crowd pleaser, 'Golas' or 'popsicles' this is a slightly different take with coconut milk, lime & salt

The fish that swam up the river:

-I always imagined spending an entire summer in a cabin by a river , catching fish, it was not an entire summer but a week that I got to spend living in a wooden cabin with a river gushing by. This is my take on that memory. The final main dish is a delicate sweetwater river fish poached in buttermilk , the fish is made soft with butter swimming in the cool buttermilk  sauce with a few note of chives & a side of pickled green mangoes.

Whispering sweet nothings:

-Remember that summer romance that lasted a short while but gave you memories for a lifetime? So will this sweet end to the meal with this 'Nongu' or 'Ice apple' pudding' with mangoes

There are 7 courses with lots of ingredients both veg and non-veg, including alcohol, also menu is exclusively created, and can’t be found anywhere. It will also be a sit down dinner with courses coming one after the other

This is the first time we attended an Openout event. I had my reservations about meeting new people and exploring a completely new concept of meal. The entire experience was amazing - the overall setup, the warm hosts and special mention of the amazing swing in the balcony. Needless to mention that the food and drinks were a treat to our tastebuds. Will look forward for such experiences in future as well.
