  • Inspiration
I am Indian and my husband is Latvian! I met my husband, Aigars when he had come down to work in the design school where I was working. After that there was no looking back! We share a common interest of photography, design and yes a passion for motorbikes! After our marriage, I have been to Latvia many times and I am in love with the culture and food of this tiny northern Europe country. Our home is hugely inspired by the culture of Latvia. A beautiful villa, a sprawling garden and an art gallery right in our home, an entry into our home will be a like a trip to Latvia, staying right here in Bangalore.
  • What we will be doing?
This experience is planned to introduce to you a beautiful country, Latvia, tucked away in the Northern reaches of Europe, by the Baltic Sea. Originally one of the oldest countries in Europe, its geographic location made it vulnerable to attack and conquest, right from the Germans in medieval times, to the Nazis and finally of course, Communist Russia. This year, Latvia celebrates the 100th year of its first independence from German occupation. How do I know all this? Thanks to my Latvian husband who I met here, and who now lives here! I now know so much about this country whose name I barely knew, - right from its heritage and culture with roots in paganism, (like many of its neighbors), to the Latvian language's extensive shared vocabulary with Sanskrit. Which have led to many theories, one of which is that the earliest "Latvians" were a people that migrated out of India! So come discover, and enjoy an afternoon of high tea in our lovely garden villa featuring canapés with Latvian recipes, pancakes and cold soup, and the famous Latvian liquer, Riga Black Balsam, all in our lovely garden. And accompanied by some soulful Latvian folk music! Our villa has a beautiful art gallery right inside the house which you can walk through and enjoy at leisure .
  • What is included

2018, the Centenary year of Latvian Independence "Latvijas Valsts Simtgade" - Latvija 100

Come join us in raising a toast to this lovely Baltic country!

This experience is intended to introduce to you a beautiful country, Latvia, tucked away in the northern reaches of Europe, by the Baltic Sea, with its rich and unique culture and heritage.

My Latvian husband has his own favorites of Latvian cuisine, and so here, we have curated some of them to be served as hor d'ouevres and presented in a high tea, served in a beautiful Bangalorean garden setting!

    Beverages:

    Riga Black Balsam liqueur!

Latvia's famous Riga Black Balsam liqueur! Which can be consumed either as a shot for those brave enough to try it! Or as a cocktail, or coffee with a dash of Black Balsam.

    Food:

    Kartupeļu pankūkas

-Potato pancakes are a Latvian favorite, served with a side of cream.

    Mushrooms

-(sēnes in Latvian) are found in abundance in the forests in a very wide variety, in the summer time. Gathering mushrooms is a favorite summertime activity, to be made into "sēnu mērce" or mushrooms in sauce.

    Smoked sprats

-Or a saltwater fish called šprotes, is served on rye bread, very different from the fish we find here in this country.

The summertime in Latvia also calls for a variety of cold soups and salads, including:

    Beetroot salad

    - Biešu salāti, beetroot cold soup - aukstā zupa (auksta biešu zupa), potato salad - kartupeļu salāti.

    And we also serve:

    Chicken cutlets

    - Vistas kotletes

    Salmon canapés.

There will be plenty of local seasonal fruit, garden salad and dip, and cold beverages.

    Desert:

    Sweets or saldumi

-We have red velvet and vanilla cupcakes and fruit cups.

And finally, what's an introduction to Latvia without the famous Riga Black Balsam liqueur! Which can be consumed either as a shot for those brave enough to try it! Or as a cocktail, or coffee with a dash of Black Balsam.
